Young women have been particularly active in mobilizing voters this election, from working with women's organizations to creating political panties. But what about organizing for the election using just what women have traditionally been objectified for—our sexuality?

Several groups have cropped up recently that focus on getting out the vote by, well, putting out.

Votergasm.org, tells "young people everywhere to have sex with voters on Election Night, and to withhold sex from non-voters until the next presidential election," and hopes to "send 100,000 first-time 18 to 25 year old voters to polls for the 2004 elections, and to catalyze 250,000 orgasms by the morning of November 3." Way to aim high!

The group's publicist, Michelle Collins, says in a Salon.com article today that young Americans aren't voting enough, and aren't fucking enough. "If there's anything that's really going to speak to America's youth, it's saying that voting is as important as sex, as fun, as American."

Sounds sketchy as hell, but their strategy seems to be working pretty well. Since the site's launch, they have received more than half million unique visitors, and more than 25,000 people have pledged to vote (and have sex) on election day.

Another site that is using sex as a means to political participation is FTheVote.com, a project of the Carbon Defense League (CDL), which Lauryn wrote about back in July. FTheVote's theory is that liberals are simply hotter, and we should be using that to influence the election. Essentially, we should be having sex with conservatives in exchange for their vote:

Believe it or not, even the most seemingly deeply rooted right-wing ideologue can be manipulated by sex. As we all know, the sex drive is a powerful beast that has the potential to change people. People lie for sex, they cheat for sex, they even kill for sex - and you can be sure that they will change the way they think (and therefore vote) for sex. All you need to be armed with are your sexy progressive values, a razor-sharp wit, your genitalia, and a mindset that doesn't mind taking one for the team.

Unlike Votergasm—which actually is planning an election night party and looking for bar where people can easily have sex—FTheVote is just a joke:

The goal of the CDL is to present information and content normally filtered from a general audience's view through satire, humor, and trickery.

Another joke site that I found last month is little more vulgar (if you can imagine that), called Porn for Progress, which put out a Porn for Kerry DVD. I won't even go into the actors' fake names…

I'm at the point where I'll take what I can get in terms of folks organizing against the current administration. And I'm all for fun, funny, types of activism. But I know that these actions also have the potential to piss people off and make a good majority of folks not take our voices seriously.

So do websites like these—jokes or not—reinforce the idea that the only thing women have to offer in politics (or in general) is their sexuality? Or is this just a fun, harmless way to get people involved in a process that they might not otherwise engage in?

Let's hear it…

RV and Motorhome Service in Orange County - PRLog (free press release)

PR Log (Press Release)Feb 09, 2010 – With spring around the corner and summer close behind many RV and motor home owners are beginning to plan their annual pilgrimages to destinations far and wide. Of course, no road trip is effectively launched without having the vehicle fully serviced and making any necessary repairs. Only a few fortunate, retired individuals travel in their RVs year round. Most motor homes spend the majority of the year in storage lots, garages or backyards. Even though they appear to only be collecting dust, damage can occur during non-operation, especially if exposed to direct sun or extreme heat. Therefore, finding a service center that will conduct a thorough inspection, identify problem areas and make accurate repairs is crucial.

Making sure that a service center is qualified to inspect and repair your type of motor home or RV is as easy as asking a few questions. Ask how many RVs and motor homes the center services on a regular basis and how many of those are similar to your make and model. If the center mostly services small passenger vehicles and only sees a handful of RVs it's probably a good idea to consider another option. Next, take a look at their service bays and ask if they can lift vehicles in the same weight class as yours. This will identify if the work is being done on the premises or being conducted at another location. Also ask about their parts and accessories inventory. A fully stocked parts department will indicate that the center specializes in motor home repair and that the work will be done quickly without shipping delays from the manufacturer.

Once you have selected a service center and it's time for that big pre-trip service appointment, make sure that your service package includes fuel filter diagnostics, transmission and brake fluid changes as well as ignition wire inspection. The best RV and motor home service centers will also offer recommended service schedules, such as changing the engine oil and oil filter every 75 operating hours or 12 months. Some centers also offer customer education. Helpful tips such as, run the generator and motor once a month or check the roof for sealant cracking, will help you to best maintain your vehicle and prevent expensive repairs in the future. With the help of an efficient and knowledgeable service team your mobile home-away-from- home can be made ready for the road and many happy memories to follow.

An employee of the Super Save Gas station was assaulted twice in as many nights by the same perpetrator over the weekend.

The employee was pumping gas into a vehicle on the evening of Feb. 5 when a passenger, who was obviously intoxicated and carrying beer, got out and began to harass him. The employee spoke up and was punched by the man.

The next night, the same man returned and attempted to initiate a fight with the same employee, eventually spraying him with bear spray. The employee was able to turn his head away, however, and was only sprayed in the back of the head.

Police are looking for a suspect described as a young white male wearing a black hoodie.

The employee was not injured.

Behind the wheel

Impaired driving charges are pending against a 45-year-old Salmon Arm man who was found slumped behind the wheel of his pick-up truck at 2:54 a.m. Feb. 5 near the intersection of 50th St. SE and Auto Road.

The lights on the truck were left on. alerting the attention of a patrolling officer. When a police officer attempted to rouse the man, he threatened to kill her.

The man was arrested, taken to the Salmon Arm RCMP detachment and produced blood alcohol samples of 210 and 220. The legal limit to be in control of a car is 80.

Damage to RVs

Following the theft of a pick-up truck from the fenced compound at Country Camping RV Sales, it was later discovered items were taken from two of the RV units parked on the lot.

One unit had a Sony DVD and TV stolen, while the other RV had similar Samsung electronics taken.

Ripping out the electronic components caused significant damage to the RVs.

Police are still investigating and the stolen vehicle has not yet been recovered.

Bernero promises campaign will be for working people of Michigan - Lansing State Journal

Robinson would have to run in 2011 to keep the office.

Long haul to primary

Others have implied Bernero would be wise to step down and dedicate his efforts to the campaign.

"He should probably give some consideration to what will be involved with the race of governor in order to win a gubernatorial primary," said Lansing pollster Bernie Porn, president of EPIC-MRA. "He will simply have to spend an inordinate amount of his time in every place but Lansing."

A recent EPIC-MRA poll implied that Bernero has a long, nerve-wracking haul between now and the August primary.

So far, state Rep. Alma Wheeler Smith of Salem Township is the only other Democrat who has formally declared plans to run.

According to the survey, 5 percent of those polled would choose Bernero; 2 percent would choose Wheeler Smith. Democrat Denise Ilitch received the most support with 17 percent saying they would vote for her, but she is not yet officially in the race.

Nevertheless, Bernero could be a serious contender if he can raise money for TV ads and court union leaders who backed Lt. Gov. John Cherry before his withdrawal, said political analyst William Rustem of Public Sector Consultants in Lansing.

"It depends on who gets in," Rustem said. "He's been a successful vote-getter in both the state Legislature and the mayoral arenas. ... The Democratic field is still developing."

Bernero, the son of a former General Motors Co. worker, criticized his party's selection process, saying some party activists told him he should "get out of the way and let someone else run."

"Some said they were looking for a candidate with great personal wealth who could pay for the campaign out of his or her pocket," he said. "I can't believe I'd see the day when my Democratic Party thinks being rich, or well-connected, is the most important qualification."

Bernero apparently was referring to potential candidates such as Ilitch, a businesswoman and University of Michigan regent, and former state Treasurer Robert Bowman, who is now CEO of Major League Baseball's online and interactive media operations.
