"Moreover, with the expansion of U-Haul self-storage operations, we are better equipped to meet our customers' current and future needs. Families needing the finest in moving services now will have increased convenience and a shorter distance to travel when moving and storing their goods, which not only will make their move easier but will have the positive effect of reducing the amount of carbon emissions released into the atmosphere," Vizcarra said.

The Palmdale Road U-Haul Storage facility will feature 24-hour security with electronically controlled access, state-of-the-art digital video surveillance, your lock/your key, both climate- and nonclimate-controlled storage rooms, FREE use of storage carts, no deposit or administration fees, a convenient credit-card payment plan and available low-cost Safestor protection to help safeguard personal possessions.

The U-Haul facility's focus on sustainability will also include a Reuse Center to provide our customers with a location to donate unwanted, gently used household goods, furniture, sporting equipment and clothing for other customers to take for free. These are items that normally would be headed to the Dumpster and/or a landfill.

Customers who rent a U-Haul moving van or trailer for a one-way move can receive one month of free storage before or after their move.

Consumer Loan Delinquencies Improve as Job Losses Slow - CNBC

Posted: 07 Jan 2010 06:23 AM PST

A key bank industry group released data showing that consumer loan delinquencies may be nearing their peak but said it remained concerned about persistent weakness in the economy and job markets.

The American Bankers Association said on Thursday consumer loan delinquencies dropped in seven categories in the third quarter, including bank card delinquencies, which fell 0.24 percentage point to 4.77 percent of all accounts.

It marked the first time since 2007 that so many loan categories experienced declines in late payments, the ABA said.

The exception was housing-related loans such as home equity loans and mobile home loans, for which delinquencies increased.

"Delinquencies may be near their peak as job losses have slowed," ABA chief economist James Chessen said in a statement.

"It's always a good sign when delinquencies decline, but they're still relatively high. Until the economy generates more jobs and the housing sector stabilizes, they're likely to stay that way."

The unemployment rate improved slightly in November to 10 percent from 10.2 percent in October, but third-quarter gross domestic product was revised down to a 2.2 percent annual rate instead of 2.8 percent.

The ABA defines a delinquency as a payment that is 30 days or more overdue.

Chessen said some of the improvements in the delinquency rates could be attributed to banks writing off bad loans.

"Banks are putting losses behind them, setting the stage for expanded lending to consumers as the economy recovers," he said.

President Barack Obama has been pushing banks to lend more, especially to small businesses, to help jump start the economy.

Last month Obama met with a handful of bank chief executives at the White House and told them that they owed it to the country to help lift the economy out of crisis.

Banks have argued that their lending is hampered by a lack of demand for credit and by examiners who are cautious about risky loans.

According to the ABA data, delinquencies decreased during the third quarter in direct and indirect auto loans, marine loans, personal loans, bank card loans, property improvement loans and RV loans.

The delinquency rates increased in mobile home loans and in home equity loans. The latter category saw loan delinquencies hit a record high, jumping 0.29 percentage point to 4.3 percent of all accounts.

Consumer loan delinquencies fall in 3Q - Fort Worth Business Press

Posted: 07 Jan 2010 08:25 AM PST

Some types of consumer loan delinquencies declined in the third quarter of 2009, a possible result of slowing job losses and banks writing off bad loans.

Loan delinquencies declined in seven of eight categories monitored by the American Bankers Association, including auto loans, RV loans, property loans and personal loans. The rates mark the first time since 2007 that so many categories experienced declines, according to the American Bankers Association's Consumer Credit Delinquency Bulletin. Various housing loan delinquencies, however, continued to rise.

The ABA's third quarter composite ratio fell 12 basis points to 3.23 percent of all accounts, compared to 3.35 percent of all accounts in the previous quarter, according to a release. The composite ratio is made up of eight closed-end loans including home equity loans, mobile home loans, direct auto loans, indirect auto loans, marine loans, personal loans, property improvement loans, and RV loans.

Bank card delinquencies fell 24 basis points to 4.77 percent of all accounts, according to a release. The ABA defines a delinquency as a late payment that is 30 or more days overdue.

The ABA's Chief Economist James Chessen said in a statement that the news was positive, but the weak economy and job losses continue to weigh on customers.

"Delinquencies may be near their peak as job losses have slowed," he said in a statement. "Consumers are working hard to get their financial houses in order by spending less, saving more, and paying down debt. But there's still a bumpy road ahead with many people unemployed and family budgets stretched to their limits."

Chessen also attributed the lower rates to banks writing off bad loans.

"Banks are putting losses behind them, setting the stage for expanded lending to consumers as the economy recovers," he said in a statement.

Auto loans also showed continued improvement, according to a release.

Direct auto loan delinquencies fell nearly half a point to 2.04 percent of all accounts, and indirect auto loan delinquencies – arranged through auto dealers – dropped to 3.15 percent of all accounts, compared to 3.26 percent in the previous quarter.

"It's always a good sign when delinquencies decline, but they're still relatively high," Chessen said in a statement. "Until the economy generates more jobs and the housing sector stabilities, they're likely to stay that way."

Housing-related loans continued to show stress, the Association said. Home equity loan delinquencies marked another record high, jumping 29 basis points to 4.30 percent of all accounts. Home equity lines of credit also hit a new record, rising 20 basis points to 2.12 percent of all accounts.

Mobile home delinquencies increased 3.63 percent from 3.53 percent in the previous quarter.
