Because of the economic downturn, Manpower has merged its Yuma office with the one in El Centro, said Jennifer Donatt, branch manager.

But Manpower, which provides both temporary and permanent worker placement services, still has a presence in Yuma, she said. Currently, the company is operating an office one day a week at Yuma Private Industry Council, 3834 W. 16th St., in the re-employment center there.

"We're there every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. taking applications from job seekers," Donatt said, adding that at the moment the company has openings for office work and industrial jobs in the Yuma area.

She said Manpower continues to take care of several national accounts it has in Yuma. For more information, businesses can call the El Centro office at 1-760-352-2426.

Donatt said Manpower intends to reopen an office in Yuma once the economy warrants it.

That new building under construction on 28th Street behind the 4th Avenue Walgreens will be the new home for Yuma Vision Center, said Alan Kircher, city of Yuma deputy building official. The building will be about 7,600 square feet. Edais Construction is the general contractor.

---

In other city of Yuma building activity, Kircher reported:

• Plans have been submitted for a high-end cosmetics store to be located inside JCPenney. The in-store store will take about 1,900 square feet.

• Two tenant improvement projects have been submitted for the Cielo Verde Retail Center that is nearing completion near the Foothills Walmart. The projects are for Michael Curtis Realty and Dojo Karate, a martial arts center.

---

Just a reminder that come Monday morning, Yuma Optical will be open for business in its new location at 11242 S. Foothills Blvd., Suite 8, in the Foothills Village Shopping Center.

Bob Walker has opened a vehicle park and sell lot at 3180 N. Short Way near the corner of 32nd Street and Avenue 3E (next to Barney's).

Walker explained he "sets the stage" by providing parking spaces for a weekly rental fee along the busy roadway for private sellers of vehicles, boats, recreational vehicles, motorcycles and golf carts.

"It's a place where buyers meet sellers," Walker said, stressing that he's not a salesman and it's up to the buyer to contact the seller to negotiate and complete a sale.

The lot is open seven days a week with lighting and security provided. Walker can be reached at 502-0707.

In addition to providing the lot, Walker offers a mobile wash and detailing service as the Yuma distributor of Auto Magic products.

He said with neighboring businesses RV Masters Repair Center and Onan Service Center, it's like a one-stop shop for vehicle services.

Margie's Crafts, which had been located at the Arizona Market Place, will be moving to 261 S. Main St., Suite 12, also known as Main Street Shops. The shop will be open Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Grand opening in the new location will be this Tuesday with specials and refreshments, said owner Marge Allen. Beading classes will start in January.

Yuma native George Young has opened his own pest control business, using the training he received while working for national companies.

Youngs Pest Control provides budget-friendly residential and commercial pest control services for pests from gophers and rats to scorpions, spiders, ants and cockroaches. Exterminators take the battle to the perimeters and landscape areas, limiting the need for invasive chemicals within the home or office.

A grand opening is planned for Jan. 22.

Ochoa began his professional career as a freelance graphic designer in 1984 and since has provided custom artwork for numerous businesses. He got into the tattoo business in 2002 while stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma and worked for Skin Pen Tattoo and Taggurr's Tattoo until venturing out on his own.

Joining him in the business is Meme Gutierrez, who became a certified tattooist in 2002 while working for Blue Moon Dermagraphics Salon in Savannah, Ga., and has since won awards for her work. In 2008, she became certified as an advanced intradermal cosmetic technician. She had been working at Taggurr's Tattoos since 2004.

A new clothing store is coming to Yuma soon. Poisonous Pinups, to be located at 2615 E. 24th St., Suite 3, will carry rockabilly, psychobilly, retro, pinup, hot rod and rock 'n' roll fashions for women and men.

Store owners Vanessa, Neomi and Robert Schaffer are planning a grand opening by late January.

---

Sherrell Judish, Jacqueline Dugan and Kimberley Dierdorf are again with Realty Executives, operating from their same location at 2375 S. 4th Ave., Suite 7 (behind Audio Einsteins and adjacent to the Humane Society of Yuma Thrift Shop).

They will be joined by Sheri Minix, a new agent to Realty Executives.

---

Granite Digital battery system adds life to DiMora's $2 million sport ... - PRLog (free press release)

Posted: 02 Jan 2010 12:48 PM PST

PR Log (Press Release)Jan 02, 2010 – Union City, California - Granite Digital is the latest world-class innovator to become a Technology Partner in DiMora Motorcar's program to create the Natalia SLS 2 sport luxury sedan. Its Save A Battery system will be standard on-board equipment, providing real-time battery monitoring on the road and continuous testing, conditioning, and charging in the garage. This is the first time that a complete battery maintenance system has become an integral part of a production automobile.

According to Frank Gabrielli, President of Granite Digital/Save A Battery, "We are very excited to be a part of such a revolutionary automotive design and we take this job very seriously. Using our advanced charger technology to keep the Natalia SLS 2 ready whenever it is called upon means that our system will have to not only be the best but also keep the battery fresh, alive, and maintained to perfection. Our added monitoring features will also protect the charging and electrical systems by alerting the driver of problems before damage can occur."

Data from the customized Save A Battery 1702 Charging System will be integrated into the Natalia's dashboard information systems, allowing the driver to check the status of the battery and electrical system at any time. For an advanced electrical system like the Natalia, this means that the driver can be assured of the vehicle's reliability before setting out on a journey.

DiMora Motorcar Founder Alfred DiMora noted the importance of Save A Battery systems for the car collector. "When you have classic cars and custom motorcycles that you need to keep in showroom condition all the time, batteries rarely get enough activity to keep them healthy. Trickle chargers keep the voltage up but do nothing to overcome crystallization of lead sulfate, which ages a battery prematurely. I solved that problem by using Save A Battery systems, which perform desulfation as part of their automatic battery conditioning and maintenance."

DiMora went on to say, "Each Natalia will have a retractable 110 or 220 volt AC cord that the owner will extend to any power outlet when the automobile is parked. This is a unique feature, only to be found on the Natalia SLS 2."
