Redwood Empire Fair's Junior Livestock Auction totals $289,170

Almost 240 lots were entered into the 2009 Redwood Empire Fair Junior Livestock Auction last Saturday at the Ukiah fairgrounds, selling for more than $289,170.

Youth exhibitors from Future Farmers of America, 4-H and independent groups around the county all participated in the event honoring and cashing in on their months of work raising the cattle, hogs, sheep, goats, chickens and rabbits.

The top six exhibitors taking home grand champion titles included a 1,185-pound steer from Potter Valley FFA's Kayla Allen, sold to Thurston Auto Plaza for $6 per pound; a 275-pound hog from Potter Valley 4-H's Kenzie Wattenburger, sold to American Ag Credit for $7.50 per pound; a 126-pound black-face lamb from Potter Valley 4-H's Chayton Johnson, sold to Duran Construction; a 96-pound goat from Round Valley 4-H's Noah Davila, sold to Mendocino Roofing for $14.50 per pound; the rabbit pen from Willits FFA's Brittany Powers, sold to the Savings Bank of Mendocino County for $725; and the poultry pen from Anderson Valley FFA's Carlos Espinosa, sold to Thurston Auto Plaza for $600.

The next six exhibitors who took home reserve grand champion titles included a 1,222-pound steer from Potter Valley 4-H's Tony Zamora, sold to Taco Bell for $3.10 per pound; a 254-pound hog from Potter Valley 4-H's Rebecca Pierachini, sold to Thurston Auto Plaza $7 per pound; a 143-pound black-face lamb from Willits FFA's Nicole Baze, sold

to Friedman's Home Improvement for $8 per pound; an 82-pound goat from Long Valley 4-H's Paige Polson, sold to Vic Weaver for $9 per pound; the rabbit pen from Anderson Valley 4-H's Chelsea Teague, sold to Davis Tree Care for $400; and the poultry pen from Fort Bragg 4-H's Adriane Lowe, purchased by Long Valley Market for $6.50 per pound.

Along with the grand and reserve champion titles, the FFA, 4-H and independent groups each have reserve and champion titles as well among members of their clubs.

FFA winners included a 245-pound champion hog from Willits's Kate Walker, purchased by Safeway of Willits for 3.25 per pound; an 88-pound champion goat from Anderson Valley's Elio Gonzalez, purchased by Stormer Feiler for $5.50 per pound; a 145-pound reserve champion black-face lamb from Potter Valley's Chance Smith, sold to Les Schwab for $6.50 per pound; a 250-pound reserve champion hog from Willits' Josh Allman, sold to Sparetime Supply for $5 per pound; a 78-pound reserve champion goat from Potter Valley's Katherine Kruger, purchased by M&M Feed for $11 per pound; the reserve champion poultry pen from Anderson Valley's Jonathan Ocampo, sold to Taco Bell for $350; and the 1,147-pound reserve champion steer from Potter Valley's Lindsey Marshall, sold to Redwood Empire RVS2 for $2.75 per pound.

4-H winners included a 1,169-pound reserve champion steer from Long Valley's Everett Sloan, purchased by Taco Bell for $2.75; the 129-pound reserve champion lamb from Willits' Stetson Burgess, sold to Thurston Auto Plaza for $8 per pound, the reserve champion rabbit meat pen from Willits' Sequoia Gamble, sold to Rudy Gamble for $200; and the reserve champion poultry pen from Fort Bragg's Deanna Lowe, sold to Campbell & Sons for $625.

Independent exhibitor Danielle Seymour of Willits won the champion title with her 1,293-pound steer, sold to Mendocino Roofing for $2.25 per pound; Covelo's Janelle McCormack's 275-pound hog won the title of champion hog, and was sold to Duran Construction for $5 per pound; while Ukiah's Dustin Satterwhite raised a 207-pound hog that won the reserve champion title and was sold to Thurston Auto Plaza for $2.75 per pound.

Other Willits FFA and 4-H lots were entered into the auction, including Ashley Persico's 115-pound and McKinzie Barlow's 120-pound black-face lambs, both purchased by Friedman Brothers for $6.25 per pound; Lakota Lebo's 71-pound goat, purchased by Safeway of Willits for $5.75 per pound; Jorden Elliott's 241-pound hog, purchased by South Ukiah Rotary for $3.75 per pound; Breanna Shuster's 247-pound hog, purchased by Acme Rigging for $4.50 per pound; Haley Schuck's 275-pound hog, purchased by 101 Trailer and RV for $3.50 per pound; Riata King's 132-pound black-face lamb, purchased by Jim Grable Forestry for $7.50 per pound; Samantha Abbott's 1,350-pound steer, purchased by Stormer Feiler for $2.50 per pound; Becky Baze's 275-pound hog, purchased by L & M Ranch for $4 per pound; and Taten Heiken's 223-pound hog, purchased by 101 Goat Farm for $4.25 per pound.

Others included Julia Johnstone's 231-pound hog, purchased by Sparetime Supply for $4 per pound; Bryce Noel's 109-pound black-face lamb, purchased by Son's Quality Construction for $7.50 per pound; Kaylie Shuster's 1,152-pound steer, purchased by Acme Rigging for $3.25 per pound; Tyler Burke's 236-pound hog, purchased by Willits Redwood Company for $4.25 per pound; Damon Niesen' 246-pound hog, purchased by Deana Edgar for $4 per pound; Whitney Briggs' 264-pound hog, purchased by Sparetime Supply for $4 per pound; Tiffany Baze's 142-pound black-face lamb, purchased by Mendo Mill for $5.50 per pound; Melissa Flint's 94-pound goat, purchased by Les Schwab for $4.50 per pound; Cheyenne Verdot's 275-pound hog, purchased by Les Schwab but for $4.75 per pound; Colter King's 143-pound black-face lamb, purchased by Tedd Dawson, M.D., for $6 per pound; and Jamie Johnstone's 205-pound hog, purchased by Sparetime Supply for $4 per pound.

More entrant's lots included Abe Lozoff's 114-pound black-face lamb, purchased by Willits Power for $8 per pound; Colton Pinson's rabbit pen, purchased by Laytonville Wholesale for $450; Hayden Moody's 127-pound black-face lamb, purchased by Born and Raised in Mendocino County for $6.25; Emmy Heiken's 249-pound hog, purchased by 101 Trailer and RV for $4.50 per pound; Tyler Miner's 250-pound hog, purchased by El Azteca Restaurant for $4.75 per pound; Kyly Moody's 86-pound goat, purchased by Anything Diesel for $5 per pound; Davis Figg-Hobblyn's 272-pound hog, purchased by J.D. Redhouse; Carolyn Simpson's 275-pound hog, purchased by J&M Sheet Metal for $4 per pound; Kevin Rust's 275-pound hog, purchased by Jim Grable Forestry for $3.75 per pound; Kaylee Seaton's 275-pound hog, purchased by Sparetime Supply for $4.50 per pound; and Lindsey Bowlds' 130-pound black-face lamb, purchased by the Mendocino County Farm Bureau for $5 per pound. Christian Abbot's 1,161-pound steer was purchased by Sparetime Supply and the Willits Rotary Club for $3.25 per pound; Jessica Koehler's 80-pound goat was purchased by John Ford for $4.25 per pound; Elizabeth Rountree's 270-pound hog was purchased by Round Tree Glass for $4.25 per pound; Caitlyn Forrester's 136-pound black-face lamb was purchased by Garbocci Van Housen Realty for $9.25 per pound; Jennifer Southwick's 232-pound hog was purchased by Ryan and Brit Grable for $3.25 per pound; Alicia Welling's 79-pound goat was purchased by Long Valley Market for $4.25 per pound; Ian Seymour's rabbit pen was purchased by 2 by Fall Performance for $4.25 per pound; Hailey Riley's 145-pound black-face lamb was purchased by Caito Fisheries, Inc., for $6.50 per pound; Rock Seaton's 275-pound hog was purchased by Cooley Logging for $4.25 per pound; Brittany Brown's 145-pound black-face lamb was purchased by Oliver Construction for $7 per pound; Garrett Vincent's 122-pound black-face lamb was purchased by Anything Diesel for $5 per pound; Ryan LaCount's 87-pound goat was purchased by J.D. Other lots included Cody Ramsey's 145-pound black face lamb, sold to Point Arena Cable for $5.25 per pound; Krista Thom's 62-pound goat, purchased by Efficient Property Management Company for $5.50 per pound; Sara Caldwell's 123-pound black-face lamb, purchased by Willits Pet Care Center for $9.50 per pound; Kyleena Amador's 63-pound goat, purchased by Amy Ford for $5.25 per pound; Stephanie Standley's 211-pound hog, purchased by Willits Power for $4 per pound; Aaron Karagavoorian's 61-pound goat, purchased by Lance and Shelley Whitney for $5 per pound; Melissa Baze's 275-pound hog, purchased by Sid Cuthbert for $4 per pound; and Casey Persico's 119-pound black-face lamb, sold to Shuster's for $11 per pound.

This year, the 25 steers grossed $91,145.40; the 55 lambs, $51,625.75; the 120 hogs, $125,818; the 25 goats, $15,206.25; the five poultry pens; $2,550 and the seven rabbit pens, $2,825.
